The Sports Massage therapist is required to manipulate the soft tissues of the injured player to help them in pain relief and recovery or even better, by manipulating the soft tissues of the players they will be more relaxed and this would prevent more injuries.
The Sports Massage Therapist’s job also requires them to have complete knowledge of different massages and know when to use them, such as Pre sports massage or post sports massage. They also need to identify if any player is injured before the game or even after it and manage common sporting injuries by themselves.

Job Roles and Responsibility
- Conducting Fitness exams on players involved in sport and exercise and advising and helping them in stretching and appropriate exercising prior to an event or fixture.
- Test the players’ joints, muscles, ligaments and tendons for ease and range of movement, pain and dysfunction
- Helping the sportspeople prepare for a game both mentally and physically and using strapping, taping and massage techniques were necessary to help them relax
- Provide emergency aid and basic life support if a sport or exercise injury occurs in the sports environment
- Examine and assess injuries that occur on the field and determine whether the sport and exercise participant can continue safely without any further complications or threats to the health of the player
- Treat and manage injuries to help the player relive the pain
- Help the Injured player rehabilitate and manage Injuries by using manual therapy techniques, exercise and therapeutic modalities
- Create good quality rehabilitation programmes and monitor them and see to the recovery
- Work with The sports coach, fitness coach, dietician, etc. to help the sports player reach and maintain peak performance
- Work with other medical professionals in mainstream medicine if the health of the player requires so.
Professional Massager
- A Sports Massage therapist does not require formal education or a degree to practise or even enter the Industry. However, it is important to have some formal training or even a bachelor’s degree to gain some momentum in a Career, here are some of the requirements for the career
- The Sports Massager must have completed a 10+2 level of education
- A bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy, Medical Physiotherapist, or any other similar background
- A master’s degree in a related field could help further your career
- Or A Certificate in Sports Physical Education course from a reputed organization is also preferred.
- Lastly, a massage therapist must hold a Massage Therapy License, or a current CPR & First Aid Certification

- As a Sports masseur, you would require to motivate an injured player to get up or walk up to the sidelines if medical attention is required.

- You would require to know everything about tissues, muscles, pain relief and first aid.
- Physical dexterity
- A Sports Masseur is often frequently required to stand for prolonged periods, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You may even require to pick up the injured player is required.
Work Environment
The Sports massage therapist may work as a self-employed person or work for multiple employers for once doing part-time jobs. Most commonly the employers of Sports therapists are amateur sports clubs and teams, professional sports clubs or teams, sports injury clinics, private health clinics, etc.
