Job Description
The Physical Trainer needs to motivate, inspire and expertly guide the clients to achieve their fitness goals. The Physical Trainer needs to consult with clients to develop a training plan to help them achieve their fitness goals that suit their abilities and skills. Once the physical training program is set then they need to instruct them on the proper techniques, to do the exercise so that they don’t hurt themselves. The Personal trainer needs to motivate the client to push themselves harder they must also help the client by providing them with constant support and constructive feedback.
To be successful as a trainer, you need to have a vast knowledge about different exercises, and their forms and know how they will affect the body. The Physical trainer is required to be empathetic, understand all the emotional needs and motivation of the client and help them in their fitness journey.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Consulting with clients to understand their physical training goals and assess their current level of fitness
- Creating a well-planned nutrition and exercise plans for the clients
- Guiding the clients during their training sessions and motivating them to push harder
- Ensuring the safety of clients by instructing them on proper form and technique
- If your client is a group of people, then help each of the clients individually
- Answering the client’s health and fitness-related question with good, detailed answers
- Holding clients accountable for their progress and giving them constant feedback about their form and progress
- While working in a gym, coordinating with other gym management and staff to ensure the gym functions efficiently
- Finding new clients for the gym or fitness center you are working for.
Eligibility
- Most Physical Trainers do not require any formal education as much as they are required to be physically fit and muscular or lean-strong built. However, it is desirable by all clients or employers that you have some form of education and certification, here are some of them that you may require
- Completed 10+2 level of education
- Personal training certification
- First aid and CPR knowledge
- Anatomy & Physiology Certification
- A bachelor’s degree in health and fitness could do wonders
- Knowledge of different forms of physical fitness exercises and weight loss techniques

The physical trainer needs to be proficient in different exercise techniques and their impact on the client. They must know how to build a complete training guide that the clients could follow to gain noticeable improvement in their physical conditions and fitness activities. They must know different exercises such as weight training, cardio, lightweight training etc. to fit with the different needs of a client.
3. Dietician Skills
The fitness trainer must know what foods will help the clients achieve their goals. For example, if a client is looking to gain weight, the trainer must suggest a calorie surplus diet and on the contrary, if the client is trying to lose weight, the fitness trainer must suggest a calorie deficit diet.
4. Motivating Skills
The Fitness trainer must know how to motivate the clients and help them push harder so that they can achieve their desired physic and fulfil their goals. Sometimes the client may feel tired or uninterested, it is the job of a Physical Fitness instructor to motivate them for a physical workout.

Work Environment
A personal trainer works at a gym or as a freelancer working for different clients, sometimes at once. They have to work with clients on a personal level to understand their needs and requirements.
Most personal trainers work for an hour or two with a single client however their work schedule is mostly similar to a 9 to 5 job as they need to handle different clients each hour.
If working at a gym, they have to oversee all that is happening inside the gym. As certified Physical Trainers, they can work in different fitness sectors or be a freelancer to choose the type of clients they want and the place they want to teach fitness.

Health and Fitness is a growing sector in India and the demand for a Personal or gym trainer is on the rise, however it is not a very high potential job. The number of years you have as experience can help you greatly to get more money but the upper limit is comparatively low.
