Job Description
The VFX editors are responsible for collating and incorporating all the Editing and VFX shots that were created into the Current version of the film. In the early stages of the movie, this could mean the storyboards, the animatics, pre visual, post visual, and live-action.
 As the post-production of the movie progresses they will collate all daily submissions into the current edit. The VFX editors run their daily sessions working together with the supervision team. They carefully manage past submissions to allow VFX supervisors and directors to compare progress and give feedback through iterations. The VFX editors must work closely with the Editors and the production team to manage all incoming media and outgoing deliverable final products.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Create a proof of concept for the supervising team by making early rough shot mockups
- Develop the Southey need to update daily, update the sequence edits and maintain the past submissions to allow the supervision team to compare their progress through old and new edits concept for a project and a sound map or storyboard using a script or project description that the director gives you.
- Ensure that the database of all the edits is maintained with current shot counts, handles, lineup, and any re-time instructions. Flag omits, retakes, or shot length that changes with Production.
- They need to collaborate with the department supervisors and manage daily screening, create a playlist, and run the screening room
- Carefully and detailedly manage and document the turnover of shots from ingesting scans to delivery
- Prepare the latest VFX edits for client approvals as well as internal approval
- Communicate and coordinate in partnership with VFX Supervisor and VFX Production to ensure shots are delivered with the highest possible quality of the clients and within the given deadlines of the schedule
- They need to continuously and efficiently communicate with all the departments in the post-production process particularly the VFX Supervisor and VFX Production
Eligibility
- To be a VFX editor you need to have a Degree in filmmaking or media studies or even Movie editing.
- However it is not a norm to have a Formal educational qualification, you can become a VFX editor by working as an Editor and gaining experience.
